In an interview when asked what surprised him most about humanity the Dalai Lama answered;
“Man sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health, and then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present or the future; the result being that he doesn’t live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die and then dies having never really lived.”
Most of the time we forget to be in the present because we are so preoccupied with the future or trying to make up for our past. I remember being at a Hugh Masekela concert, everyone had their smartphones out documenting the historic moment but Bra Hugh Masekela on his last set pleaded with the crowd to just put away their smartphones and just enjoy the moment–TO FULLY BE IN THE PRESENT!
It is okay to want to secure your future and the future of those around you but do what you can now, be so lost in the Present that you always give a 100% whenever required.
